President Rodrigo Duterte said China has made good on its promise to help the Philippine government build rehabilitation centers to complement his staunch campaign against illegal drugs.
According to GMA News Online, in his speech before the Filipino community in Jakarta, Indonesia, President Duterte disclosed that a drug rehabilitation center is now being built in Fort Magsaysay in Nueva Ecija; thanks to China who is providing materials needed to erect the facility.
“China offered to help and build a rehab. I think they started on Magsaysay. They’re bringing the materials there already. Only China ang magtulong sa atin [it’s only China that is helping us],” Duterte said.
“I would like to thank China for being generous to us,” he added.
Earlier, China has pledged to help the Philippines in its campaign against the illicit drug trade. Officials from the Chinese Embassy in Manila said narcotics are “a common enemy of mankind.”
China has expressed to the Duterte administration its willingness for effective cooperation regarding illegal drugs and said it would like to work out a specific plan of action with the Philippines.
“Fighting against all drug-related crimes is shared responsibility of all countries in the world,” a spokesman for the Chinese Embassy said.
