MANILA, Philippines – 40 judges and a page full of Chinese nationals.
Revealing snippets of his newest drug list, President Rodrigo Duterte said that at least 40 judges and numerous Chinese nationals were connected with the illegal drug trade in the country.
“Ang kaibigan natin Chinese [Our Chinese friends], there’s one page here. Judges, there are about 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8…40, distributed all around,” the Philippine Daily Inquirer quoted him as saying.
Among the Chinese suspects was a certain “Dianna Lagman” whom Duterte said hails from Pampanga.
The president ordered that copies of the drug list be given both to the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and the Philippine National Police (PNP).
“Bigyan mo ng kumpleto, ’yung Armed Forces, pati pulis, bigay mo sa kanila, hepe bahala na kayo [Give a complete copy to the Armed Forces and to the police, to the chiefs I leave it to you],” he said.
Duterte earlier asked for an extension on his war against drugs; saying he did not realize the gravity of the situation until he became president.
“My problem is when I was promising to the people, when I was campaigning for the presidency, I said, ‘Our first problem is drugs.’ I thought that it will not get worse. But when I became president and asked everyone to work and give me the result of their job, I realized now to my horror that it’s worst,” he said.
The president also urged the country’s law enforcers to continue doing their job even beyond his term.
“See to it that this country will not take a spin because the whole of the Philippines is affected,” he said. “Do not allow the country to disintegrate.”
