- The other films are Ma’Rosa, Dukot, Pamilya Ordinaryo, Ang Hapis at Himagsik ni Hermano Puli, Tuos
Eight movies are being considered to be the official entry of the Philippines in the Oscars.
In an article written by Jocelyn Dimaculangan of PEP, it was disclosed that the films being eyed to become the entry to the 2017 Academy Awards’ Best Foreign Language film category are Felix Manalo, Honor Thy Father, Hele sa Hiwagang Hapis, Ma’Rosa, Dukot, Pamilya Ordinary, Ang Hapis at Himagsik ni Hermano Puli, and Tuos.
Director Edgardo ‘Boy’ Vinarao heads the selection committee while the members include Director Jose Carreon, Director Mike Sandejas, actor/scriptwriter Ed Rocha, cinematographer Lee Meily, actor Michael de Mesa and actress Cherie Gil.
The 89th Academy Awards is scheduled to take place on February 26, 2017.
Among the films under review are:
“Felix Manalo” is a biographical film that depicts how Felix Manalo grew up as a Catholic but ended up forming his own church and registering it in July 27, 1914. He became Iglesia Ni Cristo’s first executive minister, a position that Ka Felix held for almost 50 years.
The movie, directed by Joel Lamangan and produced by Viva films, was shown on October 9, 2015. The lead characters are Dennis Trillo and Bela Padilla.
