Former senator Miriam Santiago is back in the intensive care unit (ICU) of a hospital in Taguig City, again battling cancer. Sources said she is in critical condition.
Citing its sources, the Manila Bulletin said the former senator has been confined at the ICU of St. Luke’s Medical Center-Global City in Taguig since September 3.
This is Santiago’s second hospitalization since she ran and lost in the May 9 presidential elections, where former Davao City Mayor and now President Rodrigo Duterte won the race.
She was last hospitalized on May 31 at the Makati Medical Center due to “complications.”
The former senator was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer in 2014, but she claimed she was able to conquer the illness. She later developed anorexia as a side effect of her medications.
As noted by InterAksyon, Miriam Santiago, a constitutional law expert, is the first Filipino and the first Asian from a developing country to be elected a judge of the International Criminal Court.
