  • Talitay, Maguindano Vice Mayor Abdul Wahab Sabal was arrested and is being investigated for his involvement in the September 2 Davao City bombing
  • His wife and two bodyguards were also arrested
  • Vice Mayor Sabal and elder brother Talitay Mayor Montasir Sabal, were tagged as the brains behind the Davao City bombing by a man earlier arrested by police

Talitay, Maguindanao Vice Mayor Abdul Wahab Sabal was arrested, along with three others at the Awang Airport in Datu Odin Sinsuat town on Thursday, September 8, and are now being investigated for their involvement in the Davao City bombing that left 14 people dead and more than 60 others injured.

A GMA News  article published on September 10, 2016 said an improvised explosive device (IED) was among the items seized from the vice mayor and his bodyguards identified as Nasser Maulana and Norodin Abas. Vice Mayor Sabals’ wife, Mohanna, was with him during the arrest.

The same article cited a police report that the IED recovered from the group was made from 60mm mortar round. Also seized from them were two pieces of .45 pistols, an M16 rifle, and 12 plastic sachets of shabu.

Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre said the arrested suspects are facing possible charges of illegal possession of firearms, explosives and dangerous drugs.

“The filing of criminal charges will be determined by Tuesday. Complaint is for illegal possession of firearms, explosives and dangerous drugs,” the Inquirer quoted Aguirre as saying.

An earlier Inquirer article said President Rodrigo Duterte tagged Vice Mayor Sabal and his elder brother Talitay Mayor Montasir Sabal as narco-politicians. The elder Sabal admitted being involved in drugs before, but said he had already stopped.

The Sabal brothers, according to a Facebook post of Bombo Radyo Koronadal, were tagged as the brains behind the recent Davao City bombing by a bomb maker arrested in M’lang, North Cotabato last September 7.
