- The hunt is on for the taxi driver who tried to dupe his passengers
- The cabbie asked for fare amounting to P3,600 for a NAIA-Cubao trip
- An International taxi meter calculator estimated that the fare for a trip from NAIA to Cubao in Quezon City is only P430.63
The police are now hunting down a taxi driver and a barker who tried to dupe two passengers by allegedly asking for fare amounting to P3,600 for a trip from Ninoy Aquino International Airport to Cubao in Quezon City.
According to the World Taxi Meter, an international taxi meter calculator, the estimated fare for this trip, which is about 16 kilometers in terms of distance, is P430.63.
The Land Transportation Franchise Regulatory Board (LTFRB), according to Philstar, is already coordinating with the Land Transportation Office to check the records of the taxi used by the cabbie.
LTFRB officer-in-charge Ryan Salvador said the taxi with plate number ABE 1959, as shown in the picture shared by his victims, has no records in LTFRB. He said a show cause order would be issued immediately after getting the pertinent information from LTO.
Meanwhile, LTO Chief Edgar Galvante urged victims of similar taxi scams to come forward and file cases against those involved.
“Gusto kong makuha ang kahit anong lead. Gusto nating pag ginawa natin itong pag-imbestiga, mape-penalize natin ang mga suspek. As much as possible hindi natin ilalagay sa panganib ang biktima,” Galvante said.
[I want to get any lead. I want the suspects penalized after we conduct an investigation. As much as possible, we will do it in a way that the victims are safe]
