Despite admitting that he disapproves cursing, Senator Manny Pacquiao urged people to understand President Rodrigo Duterte’s brash language and asked them to just let God change the president.
As per an ABS-CBN story, it was disclosed that in spite of admitting that he does not like people around him using foul language, Pacquiao said he understands the way Duterte speaks.
“Understandable naman na ganun talaga siya pag nagsalita [It’s understandable that it is really the way he speaks],” the boxer-turned-politician stated.
He, however, said he also hopes that the President will change with God’s help.
“Hayaan natin ang Panginoon ang magbago sa kaniya [Let God change him],” he noted.
What matters, Pacquiao said, is that the tough-talking leader owns up to his own errors – something that could not be expected of other politicians.
“Ang hinangaan ko lang sa ating Pangulo is alam niya ang pagkakamali at saka nag-sorry siya. May ibang leaders natin na kahit nagkakamali hindi tumatanggap ng kamalian, ‘di ba [What I admire about our president is that he knows when he is wrong and says sorry when he commits mistakes. We have leaders who do not accept their mistakes],” the people’s champ stated.
Recently, Duterte got into a diplomatic mess after he cursed while discussing a would-be meeting with United States President Barack Obama, who reportedly planned to bring up human rights issues with him. The White House then canceled the two leaders’ supposed first meeting on the sidelines of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations Summit in Laos.
