The Department of Justice (DOJ) indicted delivery truck driver Marlon Soriano for cracking a bomb joke at a cargo terminal in Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 4.
As mentioned in GMA News Online, Soriano was indicted by the DOJ for violating Presidential Decree 1727 which declared as unlawful the malicious dissemination of false information or the willful making of any threat concerning bombs, explosives or any similar device or means of destruction.
If convicted, Soriano will be imprisoned for a maximum of five years or fined with not more than P40,000 or both at the discretion of the court with jurisdiction over the offense.
As per the DOJ’s resolution, the Aviation Security Group was conducting an inspection of Soriano’s delivery truck at the entrance of the cargo terminal of the Cebu Pacific House when he said his truck contains a bomb. He was immediately arrested and brought to a police station.
“It is crystal clear that herein respondent (Soriano) violated Section 1 of PD 1727 for having uttered the statement ‘May bomba dyan!’ when his vehicle is undergoing inspection,” said the resolution prepared by Assistant State Prosecutor Phillip Dela Cruz.
It was also noted in the resolution that the joke was made just a few days after the Davao City bombing on September 2, which prompted President Rodrigo Duterte to declare a state of national emergency.
