Popular applications are on the rise and one of the widely used apps for travelling is the GPS technologies. In 2009, the Waze app was established to help drivers track their road and reach their destination safely.
This app does not only guide the users to the right paths but also shows the real-time traffic conditions and locates gasoline stations with their prices along the road. Moreover, this app allows users to modify landmarks and the voice and language of the navigation voice command.
Recently, the Waze app conducted its annual survey around the world with limited participants only comprising of 20, 000 app users from 38 countries. It had also used index numbers to calculate the satisfactions of the drivers 1 as the worst and 10 as the most favorable.
It used six categories to measure each urban city and these are traffic density and severity, road quality an infrastructure, road safety, driver services, socio economic, wazeyness (helpfulness and happiness of the user).
The results showed that “worst city in the world to drive in” with an index score of 1.15 goes to Cebu City, Philippines known as the Queen City of the south.
According to the Inquirer news story, Cebu City Transportation Officer chief Rafael Yap recognizes the problems the city is currently facing especially that it had been ranked as the worst city in the world.
The worsening of the traffic jams along the road had been attributed by the development of infrastructures such as BPOs and malls. However, Yap points out the failure of the Waze up in recognizing the two important factors in measuring the Drivers Satisfaction Index and these are the Driver Services Rating recorded as NA and Social Economics as zero. Yap hoped that Waze app will correct the discrepancies on their data.
Other cities the Waze app recorded were Metro Manila which ranked 170th and Angeles City, Pampanga which took the 147th spot.
As a whole nation, the Philippines is the second most unfavorable place for drivers among the 38 nations around the world with an index number of 3.13.
France was rated 8th out of the “ten best cities to drive in” and these are located in the cities Valence, Tours, Lemans, Saint-Etienne, Avignon, Reims, Nimes, Douai-Lens and Orleans.
The Netherlands was hailed as the “best country to drive in” around the world with an index of 7.54.
