NEW DELHI, India – A CCTV footage left the entire India shocked after a woman was stabbed 28 times till she died by a man in broad daylight on Tuesday.
A story by Yash Kasotia for Being Indian said that the woman, identified as 21-year-old Karuna, was stabbed repeatedly by a man while on a crowded street in the Burari area of north New Delhi.
A video footage showed the man, identified later as 34-year-old Surender Singh, stabbing the woman ferociously even as there were people around witnessing the attack.
Sadly, no one from among the passersby came to the rescue of the woman while the attack was happening; rather, people ran for their lives.
Authorities said the incident happened around 9am on Tuesday in an area very close to a police station. Karuna was a teacher at the Novel Reaches School.
The investigation revealed that the man committed the crime after the victim had rejected Singh’s romantic advances.
“I tried stopping people, but nobody was willing to help. After stabbing the girl he started dancing near her body,” said a witness of the attack.
Aditya Malik, Karuna’s brother, said Singh had been troubling his sister for a year that the family decided to lodge a complaint 4-5 months back. After the hearing, it was noted that both the families had reached a compromise so the complaint was pulled out.
Singh, who was once married, has an ongoing divorce case.
Locals in India are showing concerns over the increasing number of stabbing incidents.
An article by Samiya Latief for Indian Today said that Laxmi, a 28-year-old mother of two, was stabbed to death in West Delhi’s Inderpuri on Sunday evening after she complained against a neighbor who had been harassing her for six years.
The neighbor, identified as Sanjay, was arrested under sections of stalking after Laxmi’s complaint; however, he was later released on bail.
Police had filed a charge sheet against him in court and the case is pending trial.
