NEW DELHI, India – A woman has decided to pull herself out of a wedding after her groom-to-be told her to get rid of her dog.
A Mirror Co UK story identified the woman as Karishma Walia, who is from Gurgaon, India and had initially arranged to marry “a respectable and well-to-do” man from Delhi.
The couple had discussed their arranged marriage for quite some time and both of their parents were positive in the match.
The plan was pushing through quite well initially until the man asked Karishma to get rid of her beloved dog. Well, apparently, the woman opted to back out from the marriage instead.
Karishma’s friend from Bangalore, tweeted a snapshot of the would-be couple’s exchange of words. From the conversation, it is fair to say that the guy didn’t take Karishma’s comments very well.
“I am sorry to say this but please marry to dog in that case,” he wrote in response to Karishma.
Karishma told him that he didn’t need to be arrogant and that their relationship, clearly, hadn’t worked out.
“I didn’t dislike dogs, but now I do. I am sorry for being rude. It’s your life and you have the right to do what you like,” the man added.
The man also said that it’s good to have pets; however, it is not good when they come in between the life of a couple.
“My mom thought he’s an excellent match because he’s good-looking and well-off. There was a lot of family pressure, and they still think I did the wrong thing by raising the concern about my dog,” said Karishma as quoted by Andre Borges in an article for BuzzFeed India.
“He would say things like ‘family should be a priority and not career’. I gave up when he commented about my dog. I don’t know why my family still thinks he’s an eligible bachelor,” she added.
