• A female Russian national was nabbed at NAIA 3 for attempting to smuggle cocaine into the country
• The suspect was identified as Novopashina Anastiaa
• The NAIA Inter-Agency Drug Interdiction Task Group arrested her after receiving tip from the US Drug Enforcement Agency
A female Russian national was arrested at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3 (NAIA-3) for attempting to smuggle high-grade cocaine into the country Monday afternoon, November 28.
Neil Anthony Estrella, Buerau of Immigration Intelligence officer, identified the drug courier as 32-year old Novopashina Anastiaa. She came from Brazil and had a stopover in Dubai before arriving in Manila around 4’o clock in the afternoon.
As per GMA News Online, Anastiaa was allowed to go past immigration officials and claim her baggage, not knowing that she was being monitored by the NAIA Inter-Agency Drug Interdiction Task Group following a tip from the United States Drug Enforcement Agency.
Undetermined amount of cocaine were found cleverly concealed inside several jackets, sleeping bags and even inside the strap of the suspect’s bags.
Manila International Airport Authority General Manager Ed Monreal praised the Task Group for their efforts in curbing the smuggling of illegal drugs into the country. He also appealed to passengers to refrain from accepting requests from strangers to carry luggage for them in exchange for free trips. They may not know it, but they are being used as drug mules.
Anastiaa was turned over to the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency for the filing of appropriate charges.
