Palace officials denied that President Rodrigo Duterte passed out while he was on his way to a meeting this Monday morning, November 28.
According to an article posted on Inquirer, a text message circulated among journalists covering Duterte that he fainted while going to a meeting with officials from Bangladesh over the controversial bank heist that broke earlier in the year.
Presidential communications secretary Martin Andanar denied the rumor, pressing that Duterte is well capable of performing his functions.
“We would like to assure our people that the President is in good physical and mental health. He is strong and agile and can stand the responsibilities and demands of the presidency,” Andanar was quoted as saying.
Duterte was supposed to meet them at 2:30 in the afternoon but Presidential Spokesperson Ernesto Abello said Duterte had to attend to some other pressing matters that is why he was not able to attend.
Nevertheless, he defended, the Bangladeshi officials have already spoken with key officials in the Philippines.
“At any rate, said Bangladeshi officials have already met with various heads of agencies to discuss matters regarding the heist,” said Abella.
