- Senator De Lima revealed that it was Bong Go who asked the PNP chief to reinstate Supt. Marvin Marcos
- De Lima said the information came from her sources in the PNP
- Marcos was earlier relieved from his post as CIDG-8 head for his alleged involvement in the illegal drug trade in the region
It was Christopher “Bong” Go, head of the Presidential Management Staff and longtime personal aide of President Rodrigo Duterte, who called Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Director General Ronald De la Rosa to reinstate the police official involved in the killing of Albuera Mayor Rolando Espinosa, Sr., according to Senator Leila De Lima.
Citing her own sources, the senator made the disclosure during a press conference on Thursday, December 1.
“I have my own sources… si Bong Go [it’s Bong Go],” De Lima disclosed.
As per GMA News Online, the senator said the information came from her source in the PNP and that Go’s request to reinstate Supt. Marcos was an “open secret” among PNP officials.
“I am not inventing because I have a source…several PNP officials alam ‘yan [knew that]. It’s an open secret na in-order niya si General Bato by phone call na i-reinstate [that he ordered General Bato by phone to reinstate (Marcos)]. PNP officials knew and they didn’t like it,” De Lima said.
“Hindi nagustuhan ng ilang PNP officials na binypass ‘yung hierarchy ng PNP nung ni-reinstate ‘yan si Marcos [some PNP officials did not like it that the PNP hierarchy was bypassed when Marcos was reinstated] without clearing it with them or without asking them,” she added.
Earlier, PNP chief De la Rosa relieved Superintendent Marvin Marcos, head of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) Region 8, because of his alleged links to the illegal drugs in the region, but he reinstated the police officer following a call from a “higher up” prior to the killing of Mayor Espinosa.
