Chief Presidential Legal Counsel Atty. Sal Panelo’s son dies

Atty. Salvador Panelo, the Chief Presidential Legal Counsel, told reporters via a text message that his 27-year-old son passed away on Friday, January 6, 2017.

“Our beloved son Salvador Carlo Panelo III has joined our Maker. He was 27 years old. Please pray for the repose of his soul. Thank you so much for your prayers for my very special child,” Panelo said in his text message.

Nestor Corrales of Inquirer said in his article dated January 6, 2017 that Salvador Carlo Panelo III, who had Down Syndrome, died of heart complications. His remains lie at the Cosmopolitan Memorial Chapels and Crematory at The Ascension in Quezon.

Atty. Panelo shared that people with such condition typically dies before reaching the age of 15. He said he’s thankful for the extra years they spent with Carlo, as Panelo called his son, whom he described as “lovable, playful and sweet.”

“We are thankful God gave us a bonus of 12 years to be with him,” Atty. Panelo said.

Malacañang Palace extended its condolences to the Panelo family through Communications Secretary Martin Andanar.

“The Palace extends its heartfelt condolences to Chief Presidential Legal Counsel Salvador Panelo on the death of his son Carlo. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of Secretary Panelo at this difficult time,” the secretary said in a statement.
