- President Duterte slammed the PNP as corrupt to the core
- He said about 40% of the police force are used to corruption
- The pronouncement is a turnaround for the President who time and again declared his full support to the PNP
Amid the latest scandal that rocked the Philippine National Police (PNP), President Rodrigo Duterte slammed the national police force as “corrupt to the core.”
As per GMA News Online, President Duterte was so outraged by the kidnapping and killing of South Korean businessman Jee Ick Joo by several police officers and National Bureau of Investigation civilian agents under the guise of legitimate anti-illegal drugs operation.
Jee Ick Joo was abducted in his home in Angeles City on October 18, 2016 and was strangled to death by a police officer inside the national headquarters of the PNP in Quezon City on the same day. The perpetrators asked the victim’s wife for P5 million in exchange for the release of her husband even though the businessman was already dead by then.
“Kayo talaga ang mga pinaka-corrupt. Corrupt to the core kayo [You really are the most corrupt. You are corrupt to the core],” he said during a press conference in Malacañang late Sunday night, January 29.
He said about 40% of the police force are used to corruption.
The pronouncement, notes GMA News Online, was a turnaround for President Duterte who earlier praised the role of the PNP in his intensified campaign against illegal drugs. The President has time and again declared his full support to the police.
