Girl with rare skin disease: “What sin did I commit to be cursed with this disease?”

• A teenage girl is suffering from an ultra-rare skin disease
• People call her “human snake” because she sheds her skin every 45 days
• Her mother said her disease was so terrible death would be kinder for her

The 16-year-old girl from India needs to smear her skin with moisturizer and skin lotion, and has to soak her body in water every hour – day and night – to prevent drying out. She sheds her skin every 45 days; prompting people from her neighborhood to call her a “human snake.”

Shalini Yadav is suffering from an ultra-rare skin disease called Erythroderma; an inflammatory skin disease also known as “red man syndrome.” It causes her skin to become scaly and flake off, according to the Mirror.

“We saw several doctors but none of them could cure her and her condition has continued to get worse. I feel so helpless when I see her skin coming off, causing excruciating pain to my child,” her desperate mother said; adding death would be kinder for her daughter.

“It is better to die than living a life of misery,” the mother said.

Her father likened her condition to being severely burnt – from the sole of her feet to her head.

The teenage girl has been kicked out of school because schoolchildren would be scared seeing her face.

Shalini said her entire family is suffering because of her skin disease.

“But what is my fault? What sin did I commit to be cursed with such a disease? I want to live. Please help me, if you can,” she pleaded.
