Los Angeles, CA — A prankster all dressed in black successfully changed the iconic ‘Hollywood’ sign into ‘Hollyweed’ at around 3AM on January 1, according to a Sky News story.

The prankster, as published on Deadline, threw huge white and black tarpaulins to cover the Os and make them look like lower-cased Es.

The incident has been taken via security footage and the LA police are now conducting their investigation, and if the man will be caught he will face misdemeanor trespassing as access to the area is forbidden to the public.

The person climbed a protective fence on the mountaintop grounds and then scaled each letter to effect the change, said Sergeant Robert Payan.

The prankster may be a pro-marijuana and pro-pun whose motive may be to celebrate the legalization of the recreational use of marijuana starting 2018 which was approved in November last year.

The sign, thankfully, has been restored as the park rangers have removed the tarpaulins.

But it’s not the first time that the sign has been changed to ‘Hollyweed’. It was also done exactly 41 years ago by a college student.

The sign was originally ‘Hollywoodland’ in 1923 to help promote housing development but the last four letters were removed in the 1940s.
