- Former SAF commander Getulio Napeñas hits back at Aquino for supposedly blaming others for his own shortcomings
- He also wished Aquino was like President Duterte who ‘stands by his decisions’
- Napeñas’ statement came after Aquino blamed him for supposedly not following his order to coordinate with the military
MANILA, Philippines – Former PNP Special Action Force (SAF) director Getulio Napeñas Jr. lambasted former President Benigno ‘PNoy’ Aquino III for supposedly not taking responsibility over the botched Mamasapano operation that claimed the lives of at least 67 people including 44 government troopers.
Short of saying the former leader has ‘no balls’ to stand by his decision, Napeñas said Aquino tried to blame others for his ‘incompetence’ and shortcomings.
“Siya ang nag-approve ng operation plan. Ang inutusan niya na mamahala ng operation ay si Gen. Purisima na suspendido,” Napeñas said in response to Aquino’s recent statement on Mamasapano clash.
[He was the one who approved the operation plan. He ordered Gen. Purisima, who was suspended at that time, to direct the operation.]
General Allan Purisima was the former Philippine National Police (PNP) chief who allegedly had a direct hand in the operation despite being suspended.
In a statement earlier this week, Aquino blamed the SAF commander for supposedly not following his orders, especially on coordinating with the military prior to the operation.
But Napeñas argued that while they were aware of Aquino’s orders, the former president failed to act when problems arose mid-encounter.
He also wished that Aquino was like President Rodrigo Duterte who walks the talk.
“Sana ang mga pangulo natin ay katulad ng pangulo ngayon na kung inutos niya, desisyon niya, inapprove niya, tinatayuan niya… Pero ‘yung nakaraan eh hindi ganoon eh. Iiwas siya at isisisi sa iba,” he said.
[I wish that presidents were like our president today who stands by his orders and decisions. But the past (president) wasn’t like that. He will escape responsibility and blame the others.]
Napeñas is pinning his hopes for the truth to come out on the special commission formed by Duterte with the main task of reinvestigating the incident.
