The Philippine National Police (PNP) warned that the over one hundred men still unaccounted for of the 158 inmates who bolted the North Cotabato District Jail (NCDJ) 3 days ago after it was attacked by at least 100 bandits are now armed and dangerous.
Raymond Africa of Malaya wrote in his article dated January 6, 201 that 139 of the 158 escapees remain at large.
As per the article, Senior Supt. Leonardo Suan, deputy regional director for operations of the Central Mindanao Police Regional Office, said they received information that the escapees were given arms by the group of Nasser Esmael alias “Commander Derby,” the leader of the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) who stormed the jail facility.
Commander Derby and his men reportedly aimed to spring at least 10 BIFF members out of the NCDJ, but they also allowed others to escape.
The armed men have reportedly splintered in several groups.
Senior Supt. Emmanuel Peralta, North Cotabato police provincial director, said the massive manhunt operation is on to capture the escapees. He appealed to the public and the escapees’ relatives to help them with their task by giving reliable information.
