A two-year-old shih tzu is currently in so much pain and has become deaf after being hit with a steel pipe on the head.
On Facebook, TV Patrol uploaded the report about the poor dog named Chief who was hit with a pipe by the nephew of the owner’s husband, around 6 p.m. of January 13, in Marikina City. That evening, after hearing her pet’s cry, Diana Tebelin went out of their house and saw the dog with severe injury on its right eye.
“Masakit po sa akin. Tinuring ko rin po kasi itong parang anak. Galit na galit po ako sa kanya,” teary-eyed Diana said.
[It hurts me so much. I treat my dog like my own child. I am really mad at him.]
Diana’s husband Arwin, however, said his 24-year-old nephew Jayjay, did not mean to hurt the dog. Arwin said Jayjay just got frightened when the dog jumped at him when he came home from work.
Meanwhile, the Phillippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) stressed that animal cruelty is a crime which is punishable by the law.
“PAWS wants to reiterate that animal cruelty is a crime punishable by law. PAWS needs citizen and witnesses to take steps in filing charges so that we can prevent cruelty from happening again,” said PAWS education officer Sharon Yap.
“For the dog, PAWS can offer our low cost clinic services to ensure the recovery of Chief,” she added.
If proven guilty, Jayjay might face two years and jail and pay a fine worth P100,000.
