- The DOT has clarified it will send two VIP tickets to VP Leni Robredo
- Earlier, Robredo said she has no plans to attend the Miss Universe pageant because she received no invitation
- The DOT chief blamed the high demand for the VIP tickets for the delay
MANILA, Philippines – The Department of Tourism (DOT) has clarified that there were two VIP tickets reserved for Vice President Leni Robredo, but the high demand has apparently caused the delay.
Tourism Secretary Wanda Teo explained on Saturday that they will send the two tickets to Robredo once they’re available.
This came after Robredo said in an interview on Friday that she has no plans of attending the Miss Universe coronation night at Mall Of Asia (MOA) arena on Monday, January 30, because she received no invitation from the organizers.
“Hindi e. Hindi ako imbitado,” Robredo told reporters. [No. I was not invited.]
But Teo said Robredo is on the guest list but the tickets were not sent yet to her office because there were no available VIP tickets at the moment, only lower box tickets.
Lower box seats are reserved for cabinet secretaries and government officials, but the Tourism head insisted Robredo has to be seated at the VIP, just like President Rodrigo Duterte.
“And before tickets were handed out, nasa listahan na po si VP Leni at may dalawang upuan nang nakareserba sa kanya,” Teo explained.
“The Department of Tourism would be delighted if she will grace the 65th Miss Universe coronation night with her presence,” she added.
Early this month, Robredo was invited to Duterte’s first-ever Vin d’honneur at Malacanang Palace, only to be ‘disinvited’ a few days before the event.
The Vice President lamented that while she has no problem about not being invited, Palace officials should have extended the Office of the Vice President (OVP) the courtesy and respect it deserves by sending her a formal correspondence and not just by being informed through an email.
