MANILA, Philippines – A woman claiming to be abandoned by her American live-in partner has been accused of setting her house on fire in Cebu on Monday, February 13.
The victim has been identified by ABS-CBN News as 30-year-old Noraiza Alonzo. She reportedly admitted in an interrogation with Fire investigator SFO1 Tyrone Gocelaed her being so depressed after her American lover left her.
Alonso allegedly attempted to burn her house down Barangay Pulpogan, Consolacion at least two times, eventually succeeding on her second try.
Reportedly at 3:00 am, Alonso tried to set her house on fire but was prevented by her neighbors. Her second attempt was at 6:00 am, during which she started the fire in her bathroom using firewood.
She also opened her LGP tank which caused the blaze to spread rapidly.
Aside from Alonso’s two-story house, two more houses owned by her neighbors were also affected.
One of the owners, Carmen Gerolaga told Sun Star they were able to put out the fire before it got bigger, but the damaged to her house is still estimated to be worth P40,000.
The suspect is now detained at Consolacion Police Station facing arson charges and could face the punishment of reclusion temporal to reclusion perpetua under the Republic Act no. 5467.
