  • PNP chief announced activation of hotline which public can use to report rogue cops
  • He said complaints will be handled by newly-formed task force vs scalawags
  • He also said retraining of some 300 policemen starts today

MANILA, Philippines – Have a complaint against a bad cop? Then call 0998-970-2286.

On the first day of his anti-scalawag purge, PNP chief Director General Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa announced the activation of a hotline which the public can use to report erring policemen.

The hotline, he explained, will be handled by the newly-formed Counter-Intelligence Task Force (CITF).

“Today, we are officially launching the operations of the CITF and we are announcing to you the official hotline of the CITF so that the public can send their complaints, information and everything relative to erring policemen,” the Philippine Daily Inquirer quoted him as saying.

The CITF, composed mainly of the PNP’s elite Special Action Force and the rest coming from the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group, will be tasked to go after officers engaged in criminal activities.

“We call that a task force dahil kumpleto ‘yan — may imbestigador, merong counterintelligence operatives para ma-validate at ma-investigate itong information,” Dela Rosa said.

[We call that a task force because it’s complete — there are investigators and counterintelligence operatives to validate and investigate information.]

The PNP chief also acknowledged the start of the retraining of some 300 policemen from the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO).

“Sa amin, mahalaga ang training sa mga tao [For us, training is important],” he said. “If you get the best and the brightest, pero mahina ang training [but the training is weak], how can you get the best policemen?”

The 300 have also been ordered to go to the Palace where they will be personally inspected by President Rodrigo Duterte prior to their retraining.
