A police officer was beaten unconscious by three men over a minor traffic accident in Valenzuela City around 8:45 p.m. on Friday, February 18.
As per the Journal Online, Police Officer 2 (PO2) Rico Valenzuela, assigned at a Valenzuela City Police Station, was rushed to Our Lady of Fatima Hospital where he was placed under observation due to injuries inflicted by the suspects.
According to Superintendent Reynaldo Medina, assistant city police chief for operations, PO2 Valenzuela was driving his motorcycle when he was rear-ended by a motorcycle driven by Rhoniel Dave Lorenzo with his uncle Danilo Lorenzo as his back rider.
The Lorenzos sped away in a bid to escape, but PO2 Valenzuela gave chase and caught up with them while they were trying to park near a shopping mall. Valenzuela introduced himself as a police officer, but the duo, now joined by a friend, Ryan Gabriel, took turns in mauling the cop.
The cop drew his service firearm, but it was grabbed by Danilo and used it to repeatedly hit Valenzuela in the head. Danilo pointed the gun at the cop and squeezed the trigger, but it didn’t fire prompting Valenzuela to run for his life. The trio followed him and mauled him until he fell unconscious. The suspects took the cop’s mobile phone.
An hour later, the suspects went to the Valenzuela Police Community Precinct 2 and reported that an armed man mauled them, but that they were able to grab the gun. They handed Valenzuela’s pistol to a police officer on duty.
The suspects were arrested when a review of the CCTV footage installed in the area where the incident took place contradicted their statement.
