- The LTFRB has summoned the erring driver and the bus operator
MANILA, Philippines – The driver of the counterflowing Rainbow Express bus with plate number TXF 713 who was lambasted on social media for threatening and cursing at the motorist who refused to give way has been identified by the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board on Wednesday, February.
In an interview with ABS-CBN News, LTFRB spokesperson Aileen Lizada said the driver’s name is Alberto Agustin, while the conductor is Desiderio Flores.
Agustin is the pipe-wielding driver of the bus in the viral road rage video that figured in a counterflowing incident in Quezon City last January 30.
He got into an altercation with a private motorist, Kristoff Guinto, who took the video and uploaded it on Facebook.
Netizens lambasted the erring bus driver for being arrogant despite his obvious violation of traffic rules when he counterflowed while driving along Regalado Avenue.
He was also seen giving Guinto the ‘dirty finger’, after which some of his passengers followed suit.
According to Lizada, Agustin and the bus operator will be summoned by the LTFRB to explain their side and could possibly face suspension or cancellation if found erring. Accordingly, a ‘show cause’ order has been issued against the two.
“We see how abusive some of the drivers are. A license is a privilege given by government to be on the road. The same way with the prangkisa (franchise),” said Lizada.
“It does not mean na mayroon kayong lisensiya o prangkisa puwede n’yo nang gawin anong gusto ninyong gawin sa daanan,” she added.
[It does not mean that because you have a license or the franchise, you can do anything you want on the road.]
The LTFRB official added the operator will also be asked to explain why their franchise should not be cancelled for reckless driving, for taking a counterflow and for endangering the lives of pedestrian.
Apparently, the same Rainbow Express bus has committed 11 traffic infringements already this year including 4 violations of Bus/PUJ lane ordinance and 7 Loading/Unloading in prohibited zones.
