Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio offers hand in peace to the New People’s Army

• Inday Sara offered peace to the NPA
• She said her offer is limited only to her area of responsibility
• She urged the rebels to accept her peace offer for the benefit of both parties

Unlike her father President Rodrigo Duterte who terminated the peace negotiations with the communist rebels, presidential daughter and the incumbent Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio is willing to talk peace with the New People’s Army (NPA); the armed wing of the Communist Party of the Philippines.

Inday Sara, as the city mayor is fondly called by her constituents, said she is willing to offer peace, limited to her area of responsibility, to the members of the NPA.

“In light of the recent events in the third district of Davao City that resulted in the deaths of our fellow Filipinos, I am offering my hand in peace to the New People’s Army. My offer is limited by my authority over the area of my responsibility,” GMA quoted the mayor as saying on Monday, February 20.

She enjoined the Red fighters to accept her peace offer for the benefit of both parties. She said she has a plan, but would like to hear what the rebels have to say first.

“I suggest you think about this offer seriously since this will benefit you, our fellow Davaoeños, and our beloved city. In the event that you will decline my offer, I can only pray that there will be no more deaths and leave everything to AFP (Armed Forces of the Philippines) and to God,” she said.

The mayor said she will only talk to the NPA as a group and not as individuals who want to surrender voluntarily.
