MANILA, Philippines – A retired Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) official was shot dead by a riding-in-tandem in broad daylight in Tagum City, Davao Del Norte on Sunday morning, February 19.
The victim has been identified by Tagum City police as Nicasio Aladao Lemente, 68, and a resident of Maximo Village, Union Street, Barangay Mankilam.
Lemente is a former provincial Agrarian Reform Officer of Tagum City.
According to Supt. Laudemer Laude, Lemente was on his way to buy some medicine at a drug store when the assailants boarding a motorcycle shot him at close range.
He just came from attending a morning mass in a church and stopped by the drugstore along Osmeña Street before the shooting happened around 8:30 am.
“It was a brazen attack as the old city hall and police station was just across the street,” Supt. Laude told Inquirer.
A witness said the victim managed to fire back at his assailants but eventually succumbed to injury.
Police are now looking for any man who may have been wounded and sought medical treatment at a hospital.
Authorities, meanwhile, remains clueless as to the motive behind the killing as investigation continues.
