- Motivational speaker/businessman said anti-drug drive can’t be rushed carelessly
- He said campaign takes time, told public to be patient and wait for results
- He also reminded president to be watchful, understand the power of his words
MANILA, Philippines – Rome wasn’t built in a day.
Motivational speaker/businessman Francis Kong had this to say about President Rodrigo Duterte’s war on drugs even as he urged the public to be patient.
According to Kong, the campaign against drugs can’t be rushed needlessly amid the public clamor for a quick solution.
“I’m a person who understands business. You don’t get result by means of an event. To get good result, you need process. That’s why process takes time,” ABS-CBN quoted him as saying.
To this end, Kong told the public to wait a little more since Duterte has already accomplished at least 50 percent in his anti-drug campaign by identifying the problem.
“If you are a business person with a business mindset, identifying the problem is already 50 percent of the solution. So I would rather still say that we got to be patient and wait for more results,” he said.
At the same time, Kong reminded the president to be mindful of the power of words to avoid misunderstandings and fallouts.
“Words are extremely powerful and you and I need to understand, the moment our words leave our mouth, they are no longer ours, we have to be accountable. But we cannot change our words that would make us detached from our personality and our humanness and our real self,” he said.
“We can, however, choose words that will not compromise on its integrity, but perhaps say it in a more palatable way that people can understand and so that you lessen the risk of being misunderstood,” he added.
