Herbert’s dad ‘Direk’ Butch Bautista passes away

MANILA, Philippines – Actor-director Herminio “Butch” Bautista, father of Quezon City Mayor Herbert Bautista, has passed away Sunday evening, February 12, while confined at the Philippine Heart Center. He was 82 years old.

Mayor ‘Bistek’ announced his father’s death during a flag ceremony on Monday.

Direk Butch once served as chairman of Barangay Immaculate Conception before being elected as city councilor in 1988.

He made his debut on the silver screen in the 1956 movie “Lo’Waist Gang”,  along with “Daking” Fernando Poe Jr.

As director, Bautista has a number of films to his credit; among them “Santa Clara Pinong Pino” (1962), ‘Captain Barbell” (1964), “Dolpinger” (1965), “Black Hawk Commandos” (1968), and “Subok na Matatag” (1975).

He also starred with Herbert in the “Bagets” series in the early 80s. His last movie was in the 2014 comedy “Da Possessed”.

His other children are Hero Bautista, also a QC councilor, and Harlene Bautista.

In a Facebook post, QC Public Affairs Information and Services Office (PAISO) chief Ares Gutierrez said the elder Bautista’s remains were taken to the Loyola Memorial Chapels in Commonwealth Avenue for public viewing.

Details of funeral arrangements will be announced later.
