MANILA, Philippines – Miss Netherlands Zoey Ivory thanked fans for their positive reaction to the viral video showing her dancing to Beyonce’s hit song “Single Ladies” even as she admitted being overwhelmed by all the attention.
In an interview with ABS-CBN, the 23-year-old beauty queen said she was just dancing as a way of relaxing herself during the dress rehearsal and never even thought about getting the attention of onlookers.
“They said we can relax during the rehearsal so when I heard the music I was just being me,” she said. “At first I didn’t even notice that people were looking at me. Then I started to hear the cheering and then I said, ‘Oh my God, people are looking at me.’ Then I went a little more full out.”
Asked how she memorized the steps to the song, Ivory explained that she practiced it for a wedding when she was 17.
“Two men were going to get married and they asked me if I can perform ‘Single Ladies’ on their wedding because it’s funny and they’re gay,” she said. “We just watched the video and just copied it. That’s how I memorized the steps.”
And despite being a bit overwhelmed by her newfound fame, Ivory promised to come back and revisit the Philippines after her tour of duty is done.
“I definitely want to come back because I love the people here so much. I love the weather, I love the country so I need to come back,” she said.
The affable Ivory also left to a tongue-in-cheek advice to all bachelors.
“And I’m a single lady. Yes, I’m a single lady. Someone should put a ring on this,” she said in jest; pointing to her right ring finger.
