- Communications Secretary labelled self-confessed hitman’s claims as demolition job
- He said Duterte being subjected to character assassination by sectors affected by his reforms
- He also vowed continued path of Duterte administration to bring real change
MANILA, Philippines – Malacañang Palace struck back at SPO3 Arthur Lascañas’ amid the latter’s lightning reappearance and claim of working as a hitman under President Rodrigo Duterte when he was still mayor of Davao City.
In his statement shared by the Philippine Daily Inquirer, Communications Secretary Martin Andanar scored Lascañas’ statements as another demolition job against Duterte and said he was part of a plot to discredit and ultimately topple the administration.
“The demolition job against President Duterte continues. The press conference of self-confessed hitman SP03 Arthur Lascanas is part of a protracted political drama aimed to destroy the President and to topple his administration,” he said “Our people are aware that this character assassination is nothing but vicious politics orchestrated by sectors affected by the reforms initiated by the Duterte administration.”
Andanar pointed out that several bodies, including the Commission on Human Rights, the Ombudsman, and the Senate justice committee have already cleared Duterte of any involvement in the so-called Davao Death Squad.
“The Commission on Human Rights, the Office of the Ombudsman, the Senate Committee on Justice already cleared the President of extrajudicial killing and his involvement in the Davao Death Squad. Bringing change is not an easy task,” he said.
Andanar also stressed that the administration will continue working for the people despite howls from the opposition.
“The Duterte administration has disturbed/disrupted the establishment. However, we remain undistracted in delivering goods and services to serve the people, not just the interest of a few,” he said.
Earlier denying the existence of the DDS, Lascañas reappeared and said he was paid to carry out hits for the group.
