- Jealousy might be the motive behind the abduction of a scion of a Cebu tycoon
- The victim told investigators the suspects rebuked him for always tagging along with a female co-worker
- The police is also looking at business rivalry as a motive
The police ruled out kidnap for ransom as the motive of the suspects who abducted Dr. Julian Iñaki Larrazabal Garcia; grandson of the owner of Cebu Doctors’ University Hospital (CDUH).
According to Philstar, the victim, in his initial statement to the police, said one of the suspects might be jealous of his closeness to a co-worker – a fellow intern at the CDUH. He said he was admonished by the suspects for always tagging along with the woman, whom he did not name.
Senior Superintendent Jonathan Cabal, chief of the Regional Intelligence Division of Police Regional Office-7 said the victim told them that the suspects forced him into a van and was beaten up. One of the suspects pointed a gun at him and said they will just “teach him a lesson.”
Garcia was released two hours after he was snatched. He was bound, blindfolded and badly bruised when found.
Although jealousy appeared to be the motive for the abduction, the police said they are still looking into other possible angles. They are also looking at business rivalry as a possible motive as the family of the victim is also engaged in other businesses aside from the hospital.
