• Presidential peace adviser Jess Dureza’s nephew was arrested by PDEA agents
• PDEA said John Paul Dureza has long been in their watchlist
• 15 grams of shabu worth P200,000 was seized from the younger Dureza
Presidential peace adviser Jesus Dureza said he was embarrassed after learning that one of his nephews was arrested by operatives of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) in a drug buy-bust operation in Davao City.
“I slept early last night (still on sick leave but feeling okay) only to wake up early to be informed that one of my nephews was arrested by PDEA for drugs. I am of course embarrassed as he is a close relative,” he wrote on his Facebook page.
“But I commend the authorities for enforcing and applying the law without fear or favor. That’s the way this no-nonsense drive of President Duterte should proceed,” he added.
PDEA Director 3 Adzhar Albani said the presidential peace adviser’s nephew, identified as John Paul Dureza, was arrested at his house in Catalunan Pequenio in Davao City at 5: 45 p.m. on Thursday, February 9. Also arrested was a certain Jose Anthony Celso Huilar.
PDEA agents seized 15 grams of methamphetamine hydrochloride or shabu with an estimated value of P200,000 from the younger Dureza. A caliber .22 rifle and 177 pieces of live ammunition were also confiscated from the suspects.
Albani said John Paul Dureza has long been in their watchlist for supplying illegal drugs to prominent families in Davao City.
“Kasama siya sa validated watchlist namin then tina-trabaho namin nang matagal. Other cohorts niya nahuli na so mga prominent family ang binibigyan niya ng druga,” he said.
[He’s included in our validated watchlist and we worked on his case for a long time. His cohorts have already been arrested. He supplied drugs to prominent families]
