- President’s supporters in show of force on February 25
- Rally to be held in Quirino Grandstand and elsewhere
- Officials said rally to shore up support for Duterte amid drug war and alleged takeover plot
MANILA, Philippines – Pro-Duterte supporters and government officials are set to meet up on February 25 at the Quirino Grandstand and other rally points across the country to reiterate support for the president’s campaign against drugs and corruption.
“Although may EDSA Day celebration, hindi natin fino-focus ang atensyon namin dun. Fino-focus natin ang atensyon sa ating pagsuporta sa ating Pangulo sa kanyang pananaw na kailangang matigil na ang iligal na droga at kailangang matigil na ang korapsyon at malabanan ang kahirapan sa ating bayan,” ABS-CBN quoted DILG Assistant Secretary Epimaco Densing as saying.
[Although there is an EDSA Day celebration, we won’t focus our attention on that. We are focusing our attention to the support for our President and his aim that illegal drugs, corruption, and poverty in the country need to be stopped.]
Densing also said the rally will serve as a show of force to dissuade plotters from undermining Duterte and the administration.
DILG Undersecretary for Operations John Castriciones, also the secretary-general of the Mayor Rodrigo Roa Duterte National Executive Coordinating Council (MRRD-NECC), concurred.
“We would like to show that the support for the President is not waning and that there is really strong support for the President because a lot of people really think the President is doing the right thing in order to stamp out illegal drugs,” he said.
Castriciones added that the rally will be their way of commemorating EDSA which was all about change.
“We all know that EDSA Revolution also advocated for change and the President is a person who has really advocated for genuine change,” he said.
