After 16 long years, Jack’s back (finally).
Fans aching to see the return of the ‘Samurai Jack’ were teased with the release of a new trailer showing snippets of the fifth and final season of the hit cartoon series.
The trailer, posted by Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim on its YouTube channel, shows the titular hero Jack having not aged in 50 years since he was first thrown into the future by his archnemesis Aku. The samurai is shown at the start despondent and broken over his failure to return to his own timeline.
The next segments then reveal Jack’s encounters with several of Aku’s minions as he somehow musters the strength to continue with his journey of defeating his old enemy once and for all.
Fans of the show will notice that the series now have a grittier edge to them than the original; with one scene showing an injured Jack with a knife protruding from his stomach. Two more scenes show characters being stabbed through their faces.
Adult Swim gave a brief description of the trailer.
“It’s been 50 years since we saw Samurai Jack and time has not been kind to him. Aku has destroyed every time portal and Jack has stopped aging, a side effect of time travel. It seems he is cursed to just roam the land for all eternity. Samurai Jack premieres Saturday, March 11th at 11pm ET/PT on Adult Swim,” the caption read.
‘Samurai Jack’ tells the story of Jack, a samurai tasked with defeating Aku, an evil entity who enslaved much of his world. Before he could deal his enemy a fatal blow, however, he was thrown into the future and now must find a way back to his own time.
