- Bus in road rage video already had 11 violations to its name
- Driver and operator to be summoned by LTFRB
- DOTr also said it will check with MMDA over enforcer’s handling of incident
MANILA, Philippines – Make this 12 then.
The bus that figured in a counterflowing incident in Regalado Avenue In Quezon City on Monday had already been registered for 11 violations in the database of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA).
In its website, the Rainbow Express bus with plate number TXF713 was listed as having violated regulations involving the use of PUJ/bus lanes four times, and loading/unloading zones seven times in varying dates last year.
It is not known whether the violations were committed by the same driver who was recorded counterflowing in the viral video.
Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) board member Aileen Lizada said they are set to summon the driver and the operator over the incident.
“We may recommend the suspension or cancellation of the driver’s license with the LTO,” she told ABS-CBN.
For its part, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) said it is coordinating with the MMDA to identify the enforcer and ensure he gave the driver a citation ticket.
“The DOTr has also coordinated with the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) as to the identification of the enforcer involved, and to make sure that the bus driver was issued the necessary citation ticket”, it said.
The uploader of the viral video, Kirstoff Guinto, earlier recounted how he had refused to give way to the erring driver after the bus nearly collided head-on with his vehicle.
The enforcer who later arrived tried to take his license but to no avail; with the bus driver nearly colliding with another vehicle as he attempted to return to his proper lane. In the end, the driver sped off without surrendering his license, but not before cursing Guinto and poking a steel bar at him while his passengers jeered at the latter.
