MANILA, Philippines – At least ten cops from the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) have been relieved of their posts after they were caught sleeping while on duty last week.
The police officers – 7 from Police Station 10 and 3 from Police Station 2 – were reportedly caught during a spot inspection by the officer of the day sleeping on their job early morning of March 1.
Senior Superintendent Jack Wanky, officer-in-charge of BCPO, declined to reveal the names of the cops but said they have been transferred to Bacolod City Public Safety Company and were assigned to man the gate.
Meanwhile, their superiors, Senior Inspector Ramel Bustamante of Police Station 10 and Chief Inspector Benedicto Villarias Jr. Police Station 2 were reportedly not held liable for the cop’s shortcomings over ‘valid reasons’.
The cops have been asked to submit an explanation of their lapses as part of the due process to determine the extent of their guilt.
They might also be slapped with administrative sanctions depending on their explanations.
Wanky has reminded police officers to remain alert on duty amid threats from the communist group following the lifting of ceasefire agreement between the Philippine government and the New People’s Army (NPA).
