- Pres. Rodrigo Duterte said he is not surprised if VP Leni is involved in the impeachment complaint filed against him
- The President noted he will not also speculate
- He said he welcomes the impeachment complaint as well as the possibility of a case filed against him before the International Criminal Court (ICC)
“I will not be surprised if she is there, or I will not also be— I will also not speculate if she is not there.”
This was disclosed by President Rodrigo Duterte; stressing that he will not be surprised if Vice President Leni Robredo is involved in the impeachment complaint filed against him.
As such, the chief executive at a press conference before his departure for an official visit to Myanmar stated he is not at all worried about the impeachment complaint; noting that he goes by the rule of destiny, an article written by Rose-An Jessica Dioquino on GMA News disclosed.
In saying his piece, the President also mentioned he welcomes the impeachment complaint as well as the possibility of a case filed against him before the International Criminal Court (ICC) based on alleged extrajudicial killings in his war on drugs.
The impeachment complaint and an ICC case, he said, will not at all bar him from delivering on his promise to rid the country of drugs and criminality.
Earlier, he cleared Robredo of involvement in the destabilization plots against his administration, as repeatedly floated by Malacañang officials.
He made such pronouncement after his first public appearance with Robredo at the graduation rites of the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) in Baguio City.
However, a week after his pronouncement, the chief executive is now facing an impeachment complaint filed by Magdalo Party-list Rep. Gary Alejano with several grounds like culpable violation of the Constitution, engaging in bribery, betrayal of public trust, graft and corruption, and other high crimes.
As reported, the filing of the complaint came after the Drug Reform Coordination Network (DRCNet) released Robredo’s recorded speech which was intended for a side session at the UN Commission on Narcotic Drugs annual meeting.
As interpreted by the President’s allies, the video, where the Vice President raised irregularities in the administration’s drug war, is allegedly part of “concerted” efforts to oust the chief executive.
For her part, Robredo has denied that her video message is related to the impeachment complaint.
In addition, Alejano also cleared the Vice President of involvement in the raps.
Meanwhile, Duterte’s allies, are insisting on the connection. No less than House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez, said he is studying a possible impeachment complaint against Robredo, for betrayal of public trust.
Also, Solicitor General Jose Calida accused Robredo of treason while Interior and Local Government Secretary Epimaco Densing, a supporter of Duterte, stated that a group of volunteer lawyers were working on the impeachment complaint against the vice president.
