Pinoy chiropractor shot dead in Canada

  • A 50-year-old Filipino chiropractor was shot inside his clinic in Toronto
  • The main suspect has been identified as a former patient of the victim
  • The suspect also died later at the hospital, apparently from ‘self-inflicted wound’

A Filipino chiropractor has been shot dead inside his clinic in Plains Road East in Burlington, Toronto last week. The suspect also died later from what is believed to be a ‘self-inflicted wound’.

Last Thursday, Dr. Ferdinand “Fred” Mejilla, 50 years old, owner and operator of the Mejilla Chiropractic Clinic, died at the hospital from gunshot wounds.

The main suspect was identified as David Williamson, 44; a former patient of the victim and is reportedly the husband of one the clinic staff named Shawna Williamson.

Another staff, Jessica Koch, told the police he saw Shawna running out of the clinic after the shooting; shouting “my husband” and “he’s has been shot, he’s been shot” before calling the 911 emergency.

Williamson was also hurt and was rushed to the hospital. On Tuesday, the local police confirmed he died from what is believed to be a ‘self-inflicted wound’.

The Filipino doctor has been described by his patients as someone ‘who didn’t treat them like patients’ and a man of faith. He also loves his family dearly and is very committed to his work.

He left behind five children from previous marriage and the family has requested privacy following the tragedy.

Meanwhile, police are requesting anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or call 905-825-4776.
