- Family of rural doctor seeking government’s help to solve his death
- They said they are still in shock over his death
- Police said patient or relative who argued with doctor may have a hand in his death
MANILA, Philippines – Even as police have yet to identify his killer, the family of Dreyfuss Perlas hope justice can be meted out to the slain doctor’s assailants.
“Sana po tulungan kami ng gobyerno na bigyan ng hustisya sa pagkamatay ng kapatid ko. Mabuti po siyang tao,” Dreyfuss’s sister Wella told ABS-CBN.
[We hope the government can give us justice for my brother’s death. He’s a good man.]
She also urged the killer to give himself up.
“Kung sino po diyan ‘yung may gawa nito, sana makonsensiya siya,” she said.
[To the person who did this, I hope he is stricken by his conscience.]
Wella added that their family is still in denial over the death of her brother whom she had no known enemies but had received threats to his life in the past.
“Mahirap po. In denial po kami lahat,” she said. “Walang kaaway, mabait siya. Pero ang sabi nila dito, may mga death threats daw po. Pero wala po siyang sinasabi sa amin na kahit na ano.”
[It’s hard, we are all in denial. He had no enemies, he was kind. But some were saying he received death threats. But he never said anything about it to us.]
For their part, police said they are investigating the possibility that the perpetrator may have been a patient or his relative whom Perlas had a heated argument with at Bontilao Country Hospital last month.
“We have gathered evidence, including his phone, which we are submitting to the Anti-Cybercrime Group,” Lanao del Norte Provincial chief Sr. Supt. Faro Antonio Olaguera said.
