“Poverty is not an excuse to claim something that is not yours.” This is the mantra of a senior citizen taxi driver who truthfully gives back the money that was left inside his cab.
Armando Tolilic, a 60-year-old taxi driver, driven by his honest and truthful principle, immediately headed to GMA Network for help to have his passenger’s wallet returned on Saturday morning, March 25, 2017.
The honest cab driver said he was certain that the wallet containing P16,000.00 was from his first passenger whom he dropped off at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 2 early Saturday.
“Hindi naman sa kanila e kailangan pong isurrender yun kasi mabigat po sa kalooban ng isang tao na magdala siya ng hindi naman kanya.. na pera o anumang gamit na hindi naman sakanya.. kailangan pong isoli, kailangan pong magsikap e, hangga’t kaya po sir ah talagang kailangang magsikap ang mga Pilipino,” he said in his statement when interviewed by Bam Alegre of GMA News’ “Balitanghali.”
[It’s not theirs, you need to surrender it because it is a burden to a person’s conscience to claim a sum of money or anything that is not yours.. it has to be returned; you need to work hard as long as you can; Filipinos really have to work hard.]
Despite life’s hardships, he was not overshadowed by the fallible opportunity laid in front of him. He stood by his principle of having to maintain honest and fair dealings at all times.
Tolilic still works hard to support his children and grandchildren given his age.
Meanwhile, GMA News has already sent a message to the owner of the wallet, Ramel Laguna, but as posting has not yet communicated back.
Truly a man of honor! We salute you, sir Armando Tolilic! May you inspire everyone to do the same.
