2 students fall to their deaths from 18th-floor balcony of hotel

South Carolina, United States – Two teenage girls died Wednesday afternoon after falling from the 18th floor balcony of the Camelot By the Sea Hotel in Myrtle Beach, authorities have reported.

According to Horry County Coroner Robert Edge, the victims were identified as Daniela Flores, 16, who fell on a 10th floor parking deck, and Amber Franco, 17, whose body was found on the roof of Dunkin’ Donuts on the ground floor.

Lt. Joey Crosby, the Beach Patrol Police and the Public Information Officer for the Myrtle Beach Police Department said that someone called 911 at about 4 p.m. to report two girls falling from an 18-floor beachfront hotel.

Police already found them dead upon reaching the scene and believes no foul play has taken place. However, further investigation is being carried out to identify the reason behind the accident.

The girls were both students at Myrtle Beach High School which is on a spring break this week.

Horry County Schools spokeswoman Teal Britton said they are very involved in following the protocols of notification to the media in addressing the tragic incident as they resolve the dreadful news.

“The administration and staff are focused on helping students process this unspeakable loss and are working to assist law enforcement with their investigation,” she added.
