  • One of the cops was sleeping, while the other had gone out to buy breakfast when the suspect escaped
  • The cops did not handcuff the suspect during his hospital detention

American citizen of Korean descent Jun No, who was arrested earlier this month for selling illegal drugs, escaped from his two police custodians while under hospital detention in East Avenue Medical Center around 6:10 a.m. on Saturday, April 15.

As per the Inquirer, No, who was arrested on April 5 for selling 140 tablets of ecstasy in Pasay City, had undergone a medical operation for acute appendicitis on April 10 and was still recuperating in the hospital when he escaped.

Philippine National Police Drug Enforcement Group (PNP-DEG) spokesperson Supt. Enrico Rigor said they have arrested a certain Darlene Son who was with No at the hospital before his escape. Investigation revealed that Son gave No P3,000 which the latter used for his escape.

Son was charged with obstruction of justice, while Jun No’s custodians, Senior Police Officer 2 Michael Macarubbo of Philippine National Police-Drug Enforcement Group and Intelligence Officer 2 Ernie Eugenio of Philippine Drug Enforcement Group were criminally charged with evasion through negligence. An administrative case of serious neglect of duty was also filed against the two cops.

Investigators disclosed that IO2 Eugenio was sleeping, while SPO2 Macarubbo had gone out of the hospital room to buy breakfast when No escaped.

“That was the negligence of the two guards, they did not handcuff him on his bed,” Supt. Rigor said in a press conference.
