LUCENA CITY, – Star Hotshots’ 6’4″ gunner Allein Maliksi is crowned the new three-point king as he wins the thrilling finale of the PBA All-Star Three-Point Shootout held on Friday at Quezon Convention Center.
The first-timer Maliksi scored 20 points, including the winning, crowd shaking two-pointer from his final shot, breaking the 18-18 tie between him and Barangay Ginebra’s LA Tenorio.
Maliksi said in an interview: “Kagabi pa iniisip ko na ito. I’m a first timer at ang bigat ng mga kalaban. Lahat sila talagang mga shooters. Ang inisip ko na lang sarili ko ang kalaban ko.”
He added that he felt pressured in the end as time was running out.
The former UST shooter did better in the preliminary round with 21 points, but Tenorio was even better with 23. The defending champion, Terrence Romeo of Globalport completed the three-man final round with 18.
Simon Enciso and Juami Tiongson were also solid competitors as first time participants like the champion, firing 17 and 16, respectively.
Other participants include Ronjay Buenafe with 16 points, Gary David with 15, Maverick Ahanmisi 14, Marcio Lassiter 13, Jared Dillinger 10 and Larry Fonacier 7.
At 29 years old, Maliksi was thankful to finally seize the opportunity in his first attempt; saying that he really wanted to join the contest ever since he got drafted.
“I wanted to join this competition so bad, so I really wanted to do my best and take this opportunity,” he said.
