Look: Get ready to jump in the “Death Pool” at Cabongaoan beach in Burgos, Pangasinan

  • Summer time in the Philippines is best spent in beaches
  • One of the best destinations north of Manila is Cabongaoan beach found in Burgos, Pangasinan
  • The tourism site boasts of its white sand, crystal-clear waters and its “Death Pool”

With the onset of dry season, it is best to know where to go and for all beachgoers out there one of the best places is — Cabongaoan beach located in Barangay Ilio-ilio (Iliw-iliw) Burgos, Pangasinan.

Caboangaoan is a white sand beach which may not yet be as popular as Patar beach in Bolinao town (also in Pangasinan) due to its relative inaccessibility. But as of the moment, roads are under construction to encourage more tourists to visit this previously undiscovered and remote location, an article published on Choose Philippines mentioned.

With a slight resemblance of the Boracay of long ago, this beach will amaze everyone with its white sand and crystal clear waters. Likewise, it boasts of wonderful rock formations that surrounds the body of water.

Aside from this, the most special about this tourism destination is its “Death Pool.”

The term was humorously coined by the locals to describe the natural swimming pool that forms near the beach whenever the tide comes in and fills it with saltwater. The hole fills up with water and invites beachgoers to jump in. A bit scary at first but it is relatively safe.

The natural pool is measured about 20 feet deep. It is such an exciting sight to see waves crashing onto it. This natural mystery is probably the reason why frolickers can’t control themselves to dip into the pool with utmost excitement.

During the day, the waves are calmer; allowing people to swim in it. But once the waves come crashing in, it is hard and dangerous to even take a dip.

Aside from the dangerous pool itself, the way towards the pool can be dangerous as well. One will have to traverse large rocks and narrow pathways for a good 15 minutes or more before reaching the ultimate natural pool.

Locals are advising tourists to visit at daytime as it can be really perilous as nighttime sets in.
