Famous for her tribal tattoos, Apo Whang-Od who hails from Buscalan, Tinglayan, Kalinga, is known as the oldest and last “mambabatok” or hand-tap tattoo maker in the Philippines.
Tourists travel an hour of treacherous tracks to reach the legendary tattoo artist. They prefer to surpass the obstacles just to meet her and get a taste of how it’s like to be tattooed using the traditional way.
Though some say it’s more painful than the modern tattoo, those people who chose to get one from Whang-Od celebrate pride and honor as they get a chance to glorify her legendary skills which, according to specialists, was a practice that has been transmitted from generation to generation for about a thousand years now.
In her old age, she hasn’t yet found a member of her tribe who could inherit her art. She said that she would only pass it to someone who belongs to the same bloodline as their tradition would lose its luster if passed on to someone from a different line of descent.
Earlier this month, Apo has reportedly gotten sick but later started to gain her strength back.
As a proof that her condition is getting better, she was able to goof around with some of her customers; revealing her naughty side.
Here are some of the photos shared on Facebook where Whang-od was seen grabbing a different kind of tool:

This, however, does not intend to offend anybody, but to only show the playful side of Apo Whang-Od where people also enjoy her being cool and funny.
