- DILG Secretary Ismael Sueño was fired by the President, according to a source from Malacañang
- Sueño has been accused of corruption and other abuses by his three undersecretaries
- The DILG secretary has denied the allegations
A source from Malacañang revealed that Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Ismael Sueño has been fired by President Rodrigo Duterte.
As mentioned in a GMA article dated April 4, 2017, the directive to dismiss the DILG secretary was issued after a heated argument broke out between Sueño and other officials during a cabinet meeting in Malacañang on Monday night, April 3.
Earlier reports said that Sueño was at loggerheads with three of his subordinates who accused him of corruption and other abuses, which the secretary denied.
Sueño said the accusations were impossible as, like President Duterte, he has a strong advocacy against corruption.
The allegations against the DILG secretary were reportedly stated in a letter sent by a group that helped Duterte won in the presidential elections last year. Sueño believes that his three undersecretaries – John Castriciones, Jesus Hinlo, and Emily Padilla – were behind the letter.
Sueño claimed the three were piqued because of the new delegation of authority he issued last week resulting to the clipping of the undersecretaries’ powers.
