A passenger died while 13 others were injured in a road accident involving two vans and an 18-wheeler truck at Barangay Villaros Bagabag, Nueva Vizcaya.

41-year-old Nazareno Relado died on the spot when he was pinned inside an L300 utility van with license plate WBQ 634 which was rammed by a truck driven by 31-year-old Joey Remigio around at 10:45 a.m. Friday.

The truck driver said he lost control of the truck when it suffered brake problems as it barreled downhill and crashed into an upcoming L300 van.

The truck with license plate AAT 3813 was reportedly loaded with 1,100 bags of cement and was bound to Isabela province.

The truck overturned and fell on another upcoming vehicle, a Toyota Hi Ace van, with 11 members of Macadangdang family as passengers.

The family was coming back from a visit to a “Stations of the Cross” site in Cordon town, Isabela.

Fortunately, all the Hi Ace’s passengers survived, with only minor injuries.

Rescuers pulled out the  L300 van driver Peter Cortez and his companion Raymundo Go and were both rushed to a hospital.

Chief Insp. Ferdinand Laudencia, Bagabag police chief said they have taken custody of the truck driver.
