Two people died in consecutive incidents of drowning at a beach in Real town, Quezon province on Maundy Thursday.
The Police are not yet releasing the names of the victims as of this posting.
The victims were reportedly rushed to Claro M. Recto Hospital in Infanta, Quezon, but they were declared “dead on arrival.”
Authorities’ investigation suggests that both the victims were carried away by big waves that led to their drowning.
The National Disaster Risk Reduction & Management Council (NDRRMC) earlier warned the public that drowning is the leading cause of fatal accidents during Holy Week.
Drowning surpassed the number of people who died of vehicular accidents during the season, based on NDRRMC annual data.
